I’m certain many of you will have read ‘The Miracle Morning’ by Hal Elrod; I know I have. In fact I read it just over a year ago and knew that it was something I had to implement in my life. Did I? To a certain extent I did but it wasn’t right away. You see, like many I put excuses in the way … my bed was too warm; I was too tired; I didn’t have the time. Fact of the matter, I was just being lazy and making choices not to even try it.
Along came February 2019 and I received a call from my corporate office (I do work for myself but the products I use come from a parent company) to be part of a test group for a brand new programme. EXCITED? You betcha! I was also extremely nervous … you see the name of the programme is Morning Meltdown 100 and if you stay true to the programme, that means working out in the morning. With THREE children and on my own a lot of the time, I did wonder how I was going to commit!?! I wanted to work out in the morning … reason being that if I wait, the day runs away with me and before I know it, the kids are home from school, dinner needs to be cooked, homework needs to be broached, baths need to be run, bedtime routine etc etc … and I’m exhausted!
So, the commitment was made. I was going to get up earlier than normal and start my day with a workout. I would say it took about 3 weeks (they say it takes 21 days to form a habit) and I was waking without an alarm clock going off. I was up and working out .. see my IG (@happyhealthyconfidentself). BUT more than that happened. I started journaling too … instead of scrolling Facebook, IG and reading the news, I was getting up to write. I was pouring my thoughts onto paper; ideas gripes and groans were tumbling onto the page and then I was writing gratitude. My writing finished with three sentences of gratitude. To this day, I start my day in this way.
Personal development is something I love … I love to read but with the passing of each day, the busyness, the carting the kids to and fro, I just wasn’t getting it in. I started using some podcasts and audible books but they weren’t cutting it with me. Quite simply, I needed to go back to good old fashioned reading. But how?
Whilst on this holiday, an idea came to me … why not combine your reading with your writing. At the time (I’ve literally just finished) I was reading Niyc Pidgeon’s “Now Is Your Chance” (Niyc Pidgeon) and in the same manner that Hal Elrod’s book spoke to me, so did this one. And so it has started … I journal and write my gratitude and then I do my personal development, making notes along the way. My journaling as also led me to writing my vision and my goals every day and how my daily activities are going to impact those. Add in my workouts on top and I have the makings of the most motivational mornings! Why? I’m putting me first. I’m carving out time for me. I want to be happy, healthy and confident and that therefore means that I have to put effort into myself.
I can honestly say that I feel so much better. Only yesterday, I started adding meditation to my mornings … I’m not sure how that’s going to go but as with everything else so far, I am certain it is going to become a great habit which will manifest itself into my daily routine.
What’s stopping you from investing this time in you? Why not try the following routine or pick 3 to start with and see how it goes … I would then love to hear from you.
Motivational Morning
Meditate – 5 Min Meditation
Journal – let your thoughts come out. No order, just write. Combine with 3 sentences of gratitude. I am grateful for this day. I am grateful for the opportunity which will arise today. I am grateful for friends. (5 -10 mins)
Vision – have you ever created a vision board? This is where you see yourself in future. Creating one with pictures and words can be so powerful. Spending a couple of minutes focussing on this every morning is key.
Workout – find a programme to use. I use an online programme which allows me to workout at home. I don’t have to get in the car on a cold, wet day. I simply throw on some workout clothes, head downstairs .. (20-30 mins)
Breakfast – so many of us skip this vital component of our day. Don’t. Fuel your body with the right food it needs.
This morning routine can be completed in under an hour. I promise you, you will start to see changes in your mind, your emotions, your motivation and your general wellbeing. Taking time to invest in you is so important.
