How many times have you tried and tested something only to give up at the first hurdle?  Believe me when I say, “You are not alone.”  So many of us have great intentions in various aspects of our life to improve ourselves but we give up when the going gets tough.

I’ve been there … in fact given how I feel today, I should have given up about 5 mins ago.  However, something that I said to my team recently, resonates with me … you have to be prepared for tough times and there will be tough times.  95% of us will give up BUT what if you are in the 5% who don’t.  When the going gets tough, you get tougher (isn’t that how the Billy Ocean song goes?) … so how do you manage to get through it?

Firstly, don’t see anything as failure.  When I taught in the primary classroom (I do still supply), I used to tell my pupils that failing was a positive step … it meant that you were learning (First Attempt in Learning) … when we fail at something we should be looking for ways to succeed … we need to analyse the WHY it happened.  Then look at HOW we can change it … Put steps in place to allow you to succeed.  WHAT was it that made you turn away when you hit that roadblock?  YOU need to be able to self evaluate to understand what the causes are.

It doesn’t matter which area of your life either … relationships, finance, spiritual, lifestyle … knock-backs happen in all aspects.  It truly takes time and effort to make things work.

When it comes to a healthier lifestyle we FAIL because we see ourselves as giving up, it’s too hard.  Often I hear the word self-sabotage … one day isn’t going to set you back.  It’s a hurdle, a small one.  So, you ate unhealthily, you didn’t work out, you didn’t look after you … it’s taken years to create you how you are today … change doesn’t happen overnight.  It’s not a quick fix.  It takes time AND there will be setbacks along the road.  It’s a journey to a healthier lifestyle and it takes commitment to see those changes.

Don’t give up at the first hurdle.  Instead see it as a learning point, make changes and keep going.  Finding your tribe can be hugely beneficial too.

If you are stuck in a rut and not sure how or where to start … get in touch.  Let’s talk through some options and see if there is solution.

Happy Tuesday my friend.
