Do As you See, See As You Do

How often have you caught your child looking at you, no matter their age?  You are in the kitchen delving into that yummy Victoria sponge (just one more bite rushes through your head) and you turn around to have beady eyes on you!

Sitting watching TV in the evening (actually which mum does that?) … when you go in search of the unopened Easter eggs .. yes it is May and Easter was last month, surely all the chocolate has gone!  Anyway, you go in search … luckily no-one found your hiding spot so you tuck into the chocolate … child arrives and stares at you!

How often do you find yourself saying, “the diet will start tomorrow,” only to see your teenager standing there listening to your words.

Are these positive visions to make?  Are these the statements, the actions you want your child to see?

I spoke earlier today on my Instagram (@happyhealthyconfidentself) about what we do as adults influences our children.  How we say things, what we say, why we do certain things.  Indeed how we are role models for our children (see an earlier post).

Countless times I have tried and failed to turn my lifestyle around; changed my habits only to fall back into old ways.  However, a year ago I came across a community that inspired me.  Not just through the physical (by that I mean exercise) but through the mental and emotional aspects too.  Over the years I have tried to change and have succeeded for a short time but whenever there was a blip, I fell into my old ways.  This time I have changed.  Commitment is key.  Community is key.  Finding a group who connects with you is key.  There are so many key elements in  making changes that whenever you hit an obstacle, you need to have people there to help you – either subtly, gently OR give you mighty push to get going again.  I can honestly say I have found that group.

Today, I am committed to my healthier lifestyle … no I’m not perfect and I do slip up.  It’s not about fad diets.  It’s not about saying out loud that I am on diet.  This is a lifestyle change which happens internally and externally.  I am educating my children along the way.  Showing them how they can make choices … wise choices but not depriving themselves.  Using the home as our base, our nucleus to demonstrate how a healthier lifestyle can make a huge impact.

Through working with my online groups, I coach them; give them support and accountability to take stock in their lives.  Analyse where they need help, where they need support to improve.

Time for us all is key.  If we can learn to use that time wisely to help us it is great bonus.

If you would like more information on the accountability online groups or would like to know more about coaching, drop me a line.  I’d love to chat and there is absolutely no obligation whatsoever.

Making that first step to committing to yourself is important; having a help around you is even more so.
