Don’t Be Everything to Everyone

It’s in your nature … you can’t say NO.  Two letters, very short word but you just can’t use it.  Why?  What is it that you find so difficult?  Scared of how the other person might feel? Think you are letting them down?  Feel obligated?  The list of emotions is endless.

However, if you continue saying yes to all the demands, questions, requests etc it is going to affect you emotionally, mentally and physically …. eventually.

In our busy lives (especially as mums) we have so much going on.  It’s not an easy job being a mum AND there is no manual to come with it.  Indeed, you will receive advice from every nook and cranny BUT you have to work out what works for you and your family.

So, when you start taking on everyone else’s jobs or problems, you are going to find yourself sinking … maybe not all of you reading this will , but I am sure there will be many who can relate.

I think the biggest issue that many of us have today is saying no.  If you are a people pleaser, it’s in your nature.  But at the end of the day it will be you who gets eaten up. Trying to cover every aspect of your own life as well as someone else’s is hard.  That’s not to say that you are not there for your friends … of course we all have crisis in our lives and there are times when we do need help others. However, what I am saying is that you need to recognise your limitations; learn to say no and most importantly, ‘it’s not your job to be everything to everyone.’

As part of the monthly online bootcamps, which I run, we reflect on ourselves, think about self-care and begin to take time for personal development.  This can include recognising our own limitations.  If you would like more information about them, do get in touch.

Enjoy your day!
